​​Drinking ban sought for New Year, Songkran

​[조니 타이 | 늬우스] - 태국 보건부는 매년 신년과 송크란 연휴 기간중에 공공장소나 시설에서 술을 판매하거나 마시는 음주행위를 법으로 금지하는 내용의 법안을 제출할 계획이다.

이 법안은 매년 12월31일부터 1월1일 그리고 송크란 축제기간인 4월13일부터 15일에 적용된다고 밝혔다.

보건부가 제출한 다른 법안 내용에는 버스.기차역과 같은 터미널에서의 알코올 (주류) 판매와 소비를 금지하는 내용도 포함되어 있다.

국민 건강을 증진하기 위한 차원에서 기획된 이번 '음주 제한'을 위한 정책 입안자들은 오는 12월 19일 회동 할 예정이며 빠르면 이 법안들의 시행은 이번달 신년 연휴 전에 시행이 될 예정이다.

The Thai Public Health Ministry will propose a subordinate bill banning alcohol consumption in public places during the New Year and Songkran holidays of every year, possibly starting before the New Year holidays this month.

The proposed ban will take effect on Dec 31 and Jan 1 and from April 13-15 of every year.

The proposal is one of the five subordinate bills the ministry is proposing to further restrict alcohol consumption, Saman Footrakul, director of the Alcohol Control Committee Office under the Disease Control Department, said a seminar on Tuesday.

The others involve bans on alcohol sales and consumption at public-transport piers, transport terminals, places under the supervision of state agencies or enterprises and along rail tracks.

"We have submitted the proposals to the public health permanent secretary to be discussed at the Dec 19 alcohol-control meeting.

The alcohol-control policy makers will meet soon after so the bills can come into effect before the upcoming New Year holidays," said Dr Saman. (Bangkok Post)
