Big brands dominate Korean Air inflight sales rankings for August

SOUTH KOREA. Korean Air’s inflight duty free sales rankings by value for August saw Ballantine’s Scotch whisky, Glenfiddich, Chanel fragrances, SK-II, Hawaiian Sun, and Bang & Olufsen leading their respective categories.

Korean Air is the world’s most successful inflight duty free retailer. It generated duty free sales of just over US$200 million last year, roughly double that of its nearest inflight competitor.

Ballantine’s led the blended Scotch whisky rankings, followed by fellow Pernod Ricard brand Royal Salute and Diageo’s Johnnie Walker.

Glenfiddich single malt let Chinese spirits Shui Jing Fang and Kweichow Moutai, followed by Inniskillin and Camus in the other liquor category.

SK-II – one of Korean Air’s longstanding top performers – once again took the top spot in cosmetics ahead of Lancôme, Kiehl’s, Korean brand Sulwhasoo and Estée Lauder.

As usual, Hawaiian Sun led the confectionery rankings, followed by Hawaiian Host and Godiva.

Chanel (soon to withdraw totally from the inflight sector and an estimated US$5 million business onboard Korean Air) retained the top spot for fragrances, followed by Bvlgari and Dior.

The accessories/miscellaneous category saw Bang & Olufsen in the lead, followed by Emporio Armani, Swarovski, Stone Henge, and J.Estina.

Korean Air Senior Vice President Catering & Inflight Sales Business Division Heather Cho provided the following detailed rankings for The Moodie Report.
