세계 1위 관광도시 방콕

저는  (조니정 ) 은 수 많은 나라를 여행하고 다녀봐도 정말 태국만한 나라가 어디에 또 있을까 라는 의부심을 던지게 됩니다.  오늘은 제가 2013년 8월4일 BBC에서 보도한 UN 세계 관광 기구 조사결과 자료를 공개합니다. 

태국 방콕 이 지난 2012년 1598만명의 외국인 관광객을 유치해서 프랑스 파리를 제치고 전 세계계에서 관광객들이 가장 많이 찾는 도시 순위1위에 올랐다는 소식을 먼저 전해드립니다. 축하드립니다.  

(참고로 대한민국의 서울은 819만명으로 11위 입니다.)   

(그래도 대단합니다. 서울이 11위 라면... 우리 함께 다른나라 도시와 비교해서 생각해봅시다.) 

BBC가 8월04일 보도한 자료 UN 세계관광기구 조사결과에는 프랑스가 8,300만명 으로 전세계에서 가장 많은 관광객을 유치했으며 프랑스 전체인구인 6,800만명 보다 많은 인구수치의 관광객이 프랑스를 다녀갔다고 합니다.   

하지만 마스터 카드 (Master Card) 조사에 따르면 '16.8% 인 1393만명의 관광객이 수도 프랑스를 찾았다고 합니다. 그래서 파리는 방콕과 런던에 이어 3위에 그쳤다고 하는군요.

말레이시아 반도 끄자락에 있는 작은 나라 싱가포르는 (1175만명),  뉴욕(1152만명), 이스탄불(1037만명), 두바이(989만명) 등이 그 뒤를 이었다고 합니다. 

819만명이 찾은 서울은 밀라노(683만명), 로마(671만명)와 상하이(650만명), 암스테르담(635만명), 도쿄(580만명) 보다 더 많은 관광객이 찾았다고 합니다. 역시 대한민국 그런데 여기서 잠시 주목할 점 이 있습니다. 

한국과 미국은 그리고 일본은 입국자 (관광객) 심사및 비자 발급이 아주 까다로운 국가 우선 순위에 꼽힙니다. 올해 태국 국적 여권을 소지한 사람들에게 무비자 허용을 한 일본이 분주하게 움직이고 있습니다.

그러나 미국은 6700만명으로 방문객 수에서 2위에 그쳤지만 관광 수입 에선 1위로 실속을 챙겼다고 합니다. 역시 미국의 미력은 무엇일까요? 

미국을 방문한 관광객 한 명이 평균 1883달러를 소비해 총 관광수입은 1260억달러에 달했다고 합니다. 

관광객 1인당 지출액이 645달러인 프랑스는 총액으로 530억달러로 2위에 올랐다고 합니다.

프랑스 방문객수에 비해 관광수입면에서 미국에 크게 뒤쳐지는 이유는 프랑스를 찾는 관광객중 83%는 상대적으로 소득이 낮은 비 유럽 지역에서 관광을 왔고 체류기간이 짦기떄문이라고 보고서는 예기하고 있습니다.

NEW YORK, 19 July 2013 (NNT) - Bangkok has been selected as the “World’s Best City” by Travel & Leisure magazine for the fourth consecutive year. 

Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra travelled to New York, the United States to receive the award in person on July 18 from the magazine publishers. At the award presentation show, he publicly thanked Bangkok residents and related agencies for contributing to Bangkok’s unique qualities and attractiveness. 

He further promised to continue to gather feedback from tourists visiting the capital in order to further facilitate new influxes of visitors each year. 

The No. 1 ranking in the magazine's top 10 cities list was based on a poll of readers who cast votes from December to April to rate their favorite cities. 

Bangkok topped the list with a score of 90.42% for the fourth year running, followed by Istanbul at 89.96% and Florence at 89.84%. 

Bangkok - August 8, 2013: has been voted the Best City in the World in 2013, according to an Internet survey conducted by Travel + Leisure Magazine, a publication of the American Express Publishing Corporation. Chiang Mai, northern Thailand’s largest city, came in at 10^th best.

Thailand was the only country that had two cities in the top ten global rankings.

In the Asian cities category, Bangkok topped the list, while Chiang Mai was ranked third.

Bangkok got an overall score of 90.4, beating out other prominent global cities such as Paris, London and New York. Chiang Mai scored 88.15.

This is the third such top-ranked award that Bangkok has picked up this year.

In its 20 Global Destination Cities Index for 2013, MasterCard listed Bangkok as the world’s top destination city by international visitor arrivals. It was the first time an Asian city had gained the top spot since the Index was launched in 2010.

TripAdvisor placed Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, at the top of its Travellers’ Choice Asia Destinations list of 25 cities, while Chiang Mai was in sixth place.

The Travel + Leisure awards 2013 saw other Thai destinations, hotels and spas also score well.

On the list of the World’s Best Islands, Ko Samui was ranked 9^th and Phuket ranked 15th. In the Asian islands category, Ko Samui was ranked 4^th and Phuket 5^th.

Said TAT Governor Suraphon Svetasreni, “This is the result of the tireless efforts made by the public and private sectors as well as the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration over the last 10 years to ‘reinvent’ Bangkok and take advantage of its extensive tourism and travel opportunities. Visitors to Bangkok feel it is a truly cosmopolitan city that is a perfect mixture of the old and the new. Its distinctive character is the result of Thailand’s long-standing freedom while opening itself to all positive things beyond its borders.” 

 

He added, “We are also extremely gratified to see Chiang Mai, Samui and Phuket also gaining recognition thanks to the extensive efforts being made to improve tourism products and services. All these awards will go a long way towards helping the entire travel & tourism industry ensure quality control as we enter what will be a new era of growth.”
