태국 방콕이 지난해 1598만명의 관광객을 유치해 프랑스 파리를 제치고 전세계 관광객들이 가장 많이 찾은 도시로 꼽혔다. 서울은 819만명으로 이 순위에서 11위에 올랐다. 

According to the recently released Global Destinations Cities Index by MasterCard, an Asian city tops the list of having the most international visitor arrivals in 2013. 

BBC가 4일 보도한 UN세계관광기구 조사결과에 따르면 2012년 프랑스는 8300만명으로 전세계에서 

가장 많은 관광객을 유치했다. 

The winning city narrowly inched out London, the top spot in 2012, for the No. 1 spot by 200,000 visitors. This year is the first time since the launch of the Index in 2010 that an Asian city came in at No. 1.

And the winner is: Bangkok.

6800만명인 인구보다 많았다. 미국과 중국, 스페인, 이탈리아, 터키, 독일, 영국 등은 차례로 방문자 수에서 프랑스의 뒤를 이었다.

The capital of Thailand, according to the Index, posted 18 percent growth rates in the past two years. Two years ago, Bangkok ranked No. 3 on the Index.

Istanbul and Dubai also showed dramatic growth in international visitors. Paris (No. 3) dropped a spot since last year; it's the only city in the top 20 that shows a projected decline in the number of international visitors.



그러나 마스터카드의 조사에 따르면 ‘사랑의 도시’로 불리는 파리는 프랑스를 찾는 관광객 중 

16.8%인 1392만명 만이 들렀다. 

이 때문에 가장 인기있는 도시 순위에서 파리는 방콕, 런던에 이어 3위에 그쳤다.

방콕은 지난해 1598만명이 찾아 가장 인기있는 도시에 올랐고 런던은 단 2만명 차이로 2위에 올랐다. 

방콕은 중국 관광객의 증가로 방문객 수가 빠르게 증가하고 있다고 마스터카드 보고서는 밝히고 있다. 영화 아바타보다 많은 관객을 모은 중국영화 로스트 인 타일랜드의 흥행도 한몫을 했다. 


"Destination cities in emerging markets in the Middle East and Asia are expanding the fastest in being connected to the rest of the world through having more flights to more cities, and more frequent flights to cities where they are already connected," the report noted. "This will strongly drive the growth of their visitor arrivals and cross-border spending in the coming years."


4위인 싱가포르는 1175만명이었고 뉴욕(1152만명), 이스탄불(1037만명), 두바이(989만명) 등이 그 뒤를 이었다. 819만명이 찾은 서울은 밀라노(683만명), 로마(671만명)와 상하이(650만명), 암스테르담(635만명), 도쿄(580만명)보다 방문자 수에서 앞섰다. 

Only two U.S. cities made the Index's top 20: New York City, which came in at No. 5, and Los Angeles, coming at No. 20.

When it came to visitor spending, however, New York did take the top spot, with an estimated $18.6 billion in international overnight visitor spending. By that measure, Bangkok, with $14.3 billion, ranked No. 4.

프랑스는 조사가 시작된 이래 관광객 순위에서 1위를 놓친 적이 었다. 알프스 산맥과 지중해를 끼고 있어 스키장과 지중해 휴양지로 여름 휴가철 관광객들이 많이 찾는 것이 인기의 한 요인이다. 

미국은 6700만명으로 방문객 수에서 2위였지만 관광수입에선 1위로 실속을 챙겼다. 미국을 방문한 관광객 한명이 평균 1883달러를 소비해 총 관광수입은 1260억달러에 달했다. 

관광객 1인당 지출액이 645달러인 프랑스는 총액으로 530억달러로 2위에 올랐다.
